A selection of our native yarrow in deep wine red, aging to a soft dusty rose as the flowers mature, so a single plant carries two colors at once. Tidier and more compact than the white species.

Because this is a cultivar of a native plant rather than a wild plant, its ecological value is just as good as that of the mother Achillea millefolium. The flower form is unchanged, so small bees, hoverflies and beneficial wasps still work it, and it still hosts painted lady caterpillars.

Deer-resistant. Shear spent flowers to keep it blooming and to keep it from seeding around.

Full sun, lean soil, and restraint with the hose or drip system. Space 15 to 18 inches apart. Like all yarrow, it earns its keep in the hardest, driest corner of the yard.

Maintenance

Yarrow has so many seeds in their flower heads! Cut once the first summer flush is spent, then leave 1/3 of the seed heads for the birds through the winter. This is a drought-tolerant plant and will spread rapidly if there is an abundance of water.

Young native plants need to be consistently watered 2-3 times a week until after their first fall. After that, they will set their tough root systems through the winter, which makes it possible to live in the harsh, arid climates
